The PLP is reviewing how the law treats women from pregnancy to post birth, collecting resources for advocates, and working with stakeholders for positive change.
What we do
While interested in the overall operation of the law as it pertains to women during and post pregnancy, at present the key focus of the PLP is the law of infanticide, i.e. cases where women cause the death of their child 12 months post birth in circumstances where the “balance of their mind” is disturbed.
We are collating resources to help lawyers and medical professionals get women the support they need. We believe that knowledge is power and by pooling material we can ensure the best defence cases are built, appropriate expert evidence obtained, and medical and psychiatric support systems are in place.
We are also keen to work with key stakeholders by contributing to consultation and research papers, and providing relevant training and guidance.

The law should protect women when they’re most vulnerable, not criminalise them.
